New Century China Forum has always been committed to largely uncensored, free flowing and free thinking debate, discussion and banter in regard to China, its Politics, Current Affairs and its general assumption of a growing influence on the world stage. This is a character of the forum that I and the other Administrators would never wish to see end.

NCCF is also a openly pro-China forum, for both Communists and Nationalist compatriots and committed to the cause of peaceful reunification across the straights. We are not therefore a platform for those looking to promote separatism or agitate for a return to civil war. Whilst we always try and respect the views of nationals from other countries and encourage meaningful debate of issues arising between them and China, we; as a pro Chinese forum, will normally support the Chinese view in the final analysis.

We are however increasingly being made aware that many new members are being put off becoming proper active contributors to our community due to what is often described as a “poisonous atmosphere” generated by a handful of members, in the form of very nasty personal remarks. We as administrators have never been truly comfortable with this and have intervened on numerous occasions to tone it down. We have been however reluctant to intervene too much as members seemed largely OK with the style. Now we are sure that this atmosphere is actually hurting the development of the forum, we have no hesitation in taking immediate action.

This announcement is more than a simple issue of Forum discipline, it is a general move to encourage all of you registered and future members to become more active and regular participants.

There therefore a number of changes that are going to be made with immediate effect.

1) Personal Attacks

Personal Attacks against other members and or their families and or their race are to cease forthwith in the main forums and will receive zero tolerance. This applies equally to all members, without exception, no matter who well established or senior that they are.

Members who indulge in personal attacks in the main forums will be at the very least restricted to the Trolls Pen. For persistent offences and where there are reasonable complaints about a member, suspension and banning are real possibilities.

2) Blatant Trolling and Flamebaiting threads.

These will now only be permitted in the Trolls Pen. Offending threads/posts in the main forums will be transferred to the Pen immediately. Persistent offenders will face time in the Pen and maybe suspension, banning etc.

3) Conduct in the Pen

The more liberal attitude in the Pen is reserved for “consenting members” ie those already active in threads in the Pen. It is not a place to go and launch tirades against other members that do not use it. Such behaviour will attract penalties as already described.

4) The Grand Trolling Competition

Although a bit of harmless fun, we have decided that it is incompatible with the message we are trying to give out at the moment, for us to proceed with this event in this precise form and so we have with regret cancelled the event.
We do however like the idea of a sweepstake debate and will launch a much more orderly contest in the near future.

5) New Forums

To widen our discussion areas, we are opening two new forum sections.

i) Chinese history; to discuss non current Chinese affairs
ii) Chinese Language forum, for members for whom English is not a first or main use language.

Members Feedback Poll and Thread

If you encounter posts that you think inappropriate or problematic, please do not respond directly to it yourself but use the notify moderator button at the bottom of the post. We cannot guarantee that we will share your judgement in every instance, but we will take note of what is being said and give all reasonable complaints full consideration.

Finally, we want to maintain a pleasant, informative and premier Chinese Current Affairs forum environment for all our current and future members. Please give us your time and contribution to help make this a reality.

Thank you
I do a lot to help Sampanviking. Ask me nicely and I might help you too!!
