Do you remember the Nineties? X Files, Paranormal, Area 51 and Roswell?

UFO's were a subject of almost hysteria, with many believing that the existence and contact with Aliens was about to be publicly announced and that some Aliens were good and other bad. Some people were even propagating the view that "Star Wars" was nothing about the Soviet Union and in fact a defence plan, to protect us all from Alien attack.

and then, suddenly, in the smoke and debris if the World Trade Centre in 2001, it all stopped and today nobody talks about UFO's.

Was that then all that UFO hysteria was about? a need by the US to invent an enemy worthy of maintaining the expense of the high tech Military Industrial complex in the wake of the fall of the Soviet Union and the before rise of Rogue States, AL-Queada and the China Threat?

It is a tempting explanation. Its also worth remembering this as well. since the 90's where there was a constant stream of shaky, fuzzy videos from Camcorders supposedly showing Alien Space Craft, the release of images today has slowed to a trickle, despite nearly the whole planet owning a telephone that can take photographs and video, and download them straight on to You Tube!

What do you all reckon?

I think the answer you had in mind is that people dream about outer space when people expect order and progress on earth. When our own planet is in the middle of global upheaval (kind of like the early 70's), people keep their feet on the ground.
